Offered are 4 ironstone teacups crafted by Churchill, England, in their Willow Blue Pattern (Georgian shape), which presents a cobalt blue Asian design on cream colored ceramic, which is one of Churchill’s most famous and timeless. First available in 1818, the imagery tells the story of two lovers turned to doves. It is classic with a traditional feel that can be both formal and informal.
Cup height is about 2 7/8,” dia. at the rim is 3 1/8” (4 ¾ wide incl. handle), with dia. at foot 1 ¾”. They are in nice condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or staining. There is some age-related crazing on primarily two of them (a little on a third), of which I have captured examples in the photos. Being stoneware, they can show manufacturing anomalies such as is shown in the last photo.
Some have claimed these to be stackable, and they will stack, but they don’t feel or look very stable to me when stacked.
These cups would make great replacement pieces or added to a Willow Blue collection.
