Antique C. Hermann Milwaukee Salt Glaze Ovoid Stoneware Jug Wisconsin 1 Gallon
The Charles Hermann Stoneware Co. operated in Milwaukee, WI from 1856-1882. It continued after that under other names. This jug is stamped / debossed rather lightly, but can still be clearly read "C. Hermann & Co. Milwaukee" in an oval under the spout. It is ovoid, which would place it nearer to the 1856 date of the company's inception. It is a 1 gallon size (about 11 1/2" tall) and the finish is a beige saltglaze.
Few stress lines on the bottom, small chip on the base.
No cracks, breaks, or other chips.
