First single volume American edition, third printing hardcover copy of The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann (Alfred A. Knopf, 1946). Very rare vintage copy of this classic novel, an examination of philosophy, medicine and humanity in European culture prior to World War I. A well-preserved copy. Jacket protected in removable archival sleeve but with rubbing/scuffing to faces and shelf wear around the edges - including chipping, creasing and small tears. Boards are straight and clean but with corners bumped. Binding is firm and spine is straight. All pages clean and unmarked though tanned and with faint blemishes to outer edges of text block.
